Winter has come back!

Beautiful morning with the sun just rising and catching the top of the cottages, the sky was the most amazing blue.  Winter has returned, well it has never really happened so far this year!  which has been great for farming but not so good for the skiers!  Good news that both the local ski centers – Cairngorm mountain and Nevis Range – are open.  The best place to get the latest update on conditions is their facebook pages.

On the farming side of things  its all going well the good weather has made such a difference.  The ewes have all just been pregnancy scanned – over 200 twins and 21 sets of triplets which is a record for Gaskbeg.  Lambing starts earlier this year the first week on April so not that farm away and I hope spring has arrived by then.

Happy St Andrews day

November 30th, 2016

Happy St Andrew day from Gaskbeg FarmHope you have an enjoyable St Andrews Day,

A few ‘facts’ about St Andrews:

In Greece on the 30th November 60 AD St Andrew was crucified on a X shaped cross.  This cross is represented still today by the white cross of the Saltire or so the legend goes!

He was not Scottish! He was born in Galilee which is now Israel.

Google are marking the day with doodles of Saltire at famous Scottish landmarks.

Lots of the white stuff!!

January 13th, 2015

Snowing hard at Gaskbeg today – torrential rain, and flooding yesterday as all the snow melts!  and then today back to snow again! – wish it would make up its mind.

For guests arriving this week check the roads before you travel, traffic Scotland is quite a good website to check and it has cameras so you can see what the road conditions are like, Drummochter North (pictured) is a good one to check, its just before you turn off at Dalwhinne.  If you are worried at all keep going on the A9 until Newtonmore and then take the Laggan road – its not much of a detour.(

Please get in touch if you have any concerns at all.
