Hooray we are open for bookings

At last we’re open for bookings.

We are getting all ready, as well as getting the usual grass and garden tidy we are also deep cleaning, we are following the protocols set out  by the Association of Scottish Self Caterers which were drawn up with the Scottish Government. Most of it is detailing a cleaning procedure and what to use, but it does also recommend as much time between guests as possible.  With this in mind for single day change overs we are proposing departure dates of the evening before the original departure date.  So for the Cottages it would be departing on Thursday night instead of Friday morning, and for Bail nan Cnoc it would be departing on Friday night instead of Saturday morning.  We hope you understand this is done purely to protect guests and staff.    If you have any questions about this or our cleaning procedures, what you can expect when you arrive or any thing else please do not hesitate to get in touch.  Really looking forward to welcoming guests back to Gaskbeg.

Hairdressers open early at Gaskbeg!

On the hottest day so far we clipped all the hogs (young ewes) oh my goodness it was hot!  You could sense the relief once their thick fleeces were off.  It was hard going for the shearers too!  They enjoyed a wee swim once it was all done!

Fantastic news we are opening again on the 15 July !

It official we are going to open (all going well) on the 15th of July.  Please get in touch if you are interested in a visit or have made a booking, if you have any questions at all please ask.

The photos are of very ominous clouds rolling in to Laggan tonight they were taken just before the heavens opened!

Lots of Lambs and Great Weather at Gaskbeg

Its been one of the best lambings on Gaskbeg, the weather has just been fantastic from start to finish.  The photos are of ‘pup’ one of my pet lambs who was born with deformed front legs but he is doing great, very much keeping up with the others!

The landscape photo is of Gaskbeg from the banks looking over the Spey on lovely sunny morning at the beginning of May.

I am just so sorry that guests are not here to enjoy all this lovely weather and I hope we will be welcoming guests soon.  Please get in touch if you have any questions, I am also happy to take provisional bookings, obviously depending on how easing of the lockdown goes, I believe that it will be phase 3 at the earliest before the cottages will be open, hopefully that will not be too long way and  fingers crossed the good weather comes back!

Stay safe and well.

Spring has sprung!!!

What an amazing spell of weather, fantastic for the lambing, which has been very busy but it has just starting to slow down a wee bit.  We have quite a few pet lambs and I will post some photos of the characters soon.

Just this week the House martins returned which was lovely, I just hope they have enough insects to eat as it has suddenly got quite a lot colder.

Unfortunately the cottages are still closed but very happy to have a chat about future bookings or if any guests are concerned about a booking please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Take care and stay safe

COVID-19

Unfortunately we have decided to close our self catering cottages.  This is in line with the government’s advice that people should not be making unnecessary journeys.

If you have any questions please get in touch

Hope we will be welcoming guests again soon

Stay safe

Potters Cabin

Potters Cabin will not be available from the 1st of June this year, if you do require extra accommodation please have a look at the Cottages and get in touch for a price.

Stormy Weather

After such a calm December and January, February has been a bit of a rolla costa!  It snows then once the snow stops, the temperature goes above freezing and the rain starts and it rains until all the snow has melted and then the temperature goes down and it starts snowing all over again, and just for good measure add in some wind and floods!

The pictures above were all taken this weekend.  The Laggan Dam looking cold and blustery, stags being fed in the snow up the Glen, a very wintery view from the banks at Gaskbeg looking down over the low ground fields and lastly a blink of sunshine on the Gaskbeg Hill once the snow had come back.  The forecast for this coming week is quite good,  it will be very welcome to have some settled weather.

Lots of Snow

The white stuff has arrived again and I think it is going to last a wee bit longer than last weeks offering!  Nevis range is looking good, their facebook page is good for up to date information on conditions.  Today on Gaskbeg is a wee bit more open with blue skies in-between the snow showers, I think the forecast is for frost tonight but warming up slightly by the weekend, but hopefully not enough to melt all the snow on the hill.  The photo below is of the Gaskbeg drive.

An amazing sunset

The most amazing sunset, the sky went from the brightest orange to the deepest purple, it really was quite spectacular.  The photos are taken from the Gaskbeg green looking towards Strathmashie, wolftrax and the West.
