We have had a very busy Summer and I cannot believe it is now the middle of August? Some fantastic weather as well as some rain but that has meant we have lots of grass which is great for the stock!
The photo above is of the ‘Gaskbeg Swimming Pool’ which is a great pool in the River Spey which flows through the Farm. I took this picture on a lovely summer evening whilst swimming! I hope we get some more swimming weather before the summer is finished.
Lambing has at last finished today (10th of June) the last ewe to lamb has been hanging on for ages but she finally produced a healthy single lamb! So its just pet lambs to feed but hopefully they will be going out soon.
Weather has been absolutely amazing lets hope it continues, Loch Laggan looked amazing but it was still a wee be chilly
What happened to March? cannot believe its April all ready. We are all gearing up for lambing, first lambs expected about the 12th /13th so fingers and toes crossed that the weather will be good.
The Laggan Stores, Coffee Bothy and Gallery is now open 6 days a week and they have joined up with the Cairngorms National Park Authority to be one of their local information centres, so definitely worth a visit.
Also worth a visit if your up for an adventure is Quad Bike and 4 x 4 Tours based at Kinlochlaggan (about 7 miles from Gaskbeg)
Last of the sun setting in the west behind Craig Meagaidh , a cold night ahead I think, the forecasters are saying it could go to -10! Which is cold but nothing like what some areas in America are getting, in Chicago record breaking temperatures of -30 have been recorded – now that’s cold!!!
If all this winter weather is making you think about ski-ing here is a list of all the Scottish ski centres and links to their websites to get the most upto date information. We were skiing at the Nevis range on Saturday and the weather was fantastic, but there was just not quite enough snow – lots of rocks – but its snowing now so hopefully conditions will get better.
The two nearest centres are; The Nevis Range (FortWilliam) which is about 38 miles from Gaskbeg. Details of conditions can be found HERE
and; Cairngorm Mountain (Aviemore) which is about 30 miles from Gaskbeg. Details of conditions found HERE
There are 3 other ski centre
The Lecht Ski Centre (Lecht 2090) is on the A95 between Tomintoul and Cockbridge is about 56 miles from Gaskbeg, detail can be found HERE
Glencoe Ski Centre which is on the A82 south of FortWilliam it is about 70 miles from Gaskbeg, details can be found HERE

HAPPY SKIING
Sunrise over the Ruins of the Ruthven Barracks on a beautiful January morning
Great place to visit just over the Spey from Kingussie. The barracks you see were built in 1719 after the Jacobite rising in 1715, and then destroyed by the Jacobites after their defeat at Culloden. The first castle that was built on this site in 1229, it was used as a base by Alexander Stewart, Earl of Buchan, the youngest son of King Robert the second of Scotland.
The Ruthven Barracks are open all year and are free to visit.
This is Willie Laird who grew up on Gaskbeg with a good catch on Hogmanay. The pike is heading straight for the Highland Wildlife Park for Hamish’s tea!
If you like polar bears here is some great footage from Channel 4 of the lead up to Wee Hamish emerging last year
Also just a wee bit down the road from the Wildlife park is Landmark Forest Adventure at Carrbridge they are offering to renew season tickets at last years price till the end of January! follow the link or phone 01479 841 613
Spectacular sky this morning pinks and oranges lighting up the whole sky. Hope the saying is wrong and its not a sign for the weather to deteriorate later in the day!
Still have availability in Allt Bronach for the New Year please get in touch for a price
Forget about how many days until Christmas, there is only 17 days until the shortest day on the 21st of December! Then the days start getting longer and that is a very nice thought.
The photo was taken this morning at sunrise from the banks looking over Gaskbeg and the Spey to Cluny’s Monument.
Happy St Andrews Day
The sun just catching a wee stand of Scots Pine trees, just off the road going up the Glen, next to the Laggan Dam.
