Spring, my favourite time of year

Spring the best time of year, everything bursting into life! The gorse is wonderful with its coconut fragrance, everything has changed from grey to green!  One of our lambing highlight was our quads, four beautiful lambs.

Our new wood chip boiler is working well after a few hiccups at the start, but fingers crossed its all sorted now.

We still have some availability for the Summer so please get in touch

Laggan Coffee Bothy opens its doors again

Laggan Coffee Bothy display of delicious cakes

Fantastic news Laggan Coffee Bothy has re-opened.  Lots of info on their facebook page just search Laggan Coffee Bothy.   Definitely worth a visit if you are staying in Laggan or just passing through.

The Pottery on the Dalwhinnie road (A889) is also a good place to stop for a coffee and has some very nice gifts although a wee bit pricy!

Last stop for coffee heading west before you hit Lochaber is the Cafe at Wolftrax bike centre. I haven’t been into the cafe for a while but the last time I visited is was great good coffee and tasty cakes.

Fantastic February Sunrises

February brought some very windy stormy weather but also some settled spells which gave us some amazing sunrises and sunsets

The Laggan Coffee Bothy closed at the end of last year but we have been hearing that the new owners are planning to opening up again sometime in March, it will be lovely to have the cafe back and its will be great to see whats new!

We still have some availability at Easter if you need any information please do not hesitate to get in touch

Stargazing, lots of snow and of course some wind and rain!

January gave us some more very cold weather -10 but with that we got some beautiful sunrises and sunsets as well as crisp bright days and amazing starry nights.  Also lots and lots of snow, Craig Meagaidh cliffs were just laden with snow!

Cairngorm Funicular Railway reopens

Good news for skiers and mountain enthusiasts Cairngorm mountain railway has at long last re opened after 4 years of repairs!  The Funicular Railway is the highest railway in Scotland going up to the Ptarmigan Restaurant at 1065m.  Worth a trip to the top even if you are not a skier, but it can get very busy at the weekends if the snow is good!

Happy New Year

The top two left photos were taken at about 11pm and it was about -13, it was a great night for stargazing, quite impressed my camera (phone) managed to take photos in the dark! The next one is Ewan doing the late shift snow clearing in the wee tractor lighting up the tress.  The last top photo is Gaskbeg Farmhouse looking very Christmassy thanks very much to Alan Docker for the wonderful wreath.

The bottom photos were all taken today the last day of 2022, what a beautiful day blue skies but cold, freezing spiders webs on the gate to the cottages.

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year and all the very best for 2023

Wonderful snow for skiing, but the Funicular is still closed – give backcountry skiing a go?

After having a very mellow mild November, -10 plus this morning was a bit of a shock !  We haven’t had much snow just a covering but further North and East there has been quite a bit of snow, enough for some good skiing, unfortunately Cairngorm Mountain  is not open yet! according to their website they are hoping to be open soon and their season passes run from the 21st Dec.   If you are feeling fit you can walk or use skins on your skis and ski up to the top and ski down very quiet runs!  Tiso in Aviemore offer equipments hire (£35 per day Ski touring package).

Happy New Year

Forget how many days till Christmas!

Sun just touching the Spey and the hill. Looking at a cold Cluny's monument

Forget about how many days until Christmas, there is only 17 days until the shortest day on the 21st of December! Then the days start getting longer and that is a very nice thought.

The photo was taken this morning at sunrise  from the banks looking over Gaskbeg and the Spey to Cluny’s Monument.
